FiiO M23 DAP – AK4499EX + THX
The next version of the Fiio M11 Plus is coming soon and is expected to have improved sound quality compared to the previous model. With Android compatibility, this digital audio player (DAP) can work with popular streaming apps, and it also supports Bluetooth aptX HD and Sony LDAC for high-quality wireless audio.
The recently announced FiiO M23 is the latest version of the FiiO M11 Plus. However, the manufacturer has reused several components from the previous model, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset from 2017 and a 5.5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1440 x 720.
The RAM is still 4 GB, and the internal flash storage is 64 GB but can be increased to 2 TB with a microSD card. The FiiO M23 focuses entirely on audio quality and uses an AKM AK419EQ and an AKM AK4499EX DAC, which can decode both DSD256 and PCM up to 32-bit at 384 kHz.
Two THX AAA-78+ amplifiers can deliver 1000 mW of power at 32 ohms in Super High Gain mode. Even at 300 ohms, getting 236 mW of power is possible. This mode is accessible only when the player is powered through USB-C. Users can select from ‘Low’, ‘Medium’, and ‘High’ to match the output with their headphones’ needs.
The FiiO M23 offers multiple connectivity options such as a 3.5 mm or a balanced 4.4 mm connection. It also supports Bluetooth aptX HD and LDAC, allowing you to use it as a transmitter or receiver. The battery capacity is 5500 mAh, slightly smaller than the previous model, resulting in a 10.5-hour music playback runtime, which is one hour less than before.
The FiiO M23 DAP is set to launch in April 2024 with a price tag of $$699.
